Gearing up here for Georgia’s preseason practices that get rolling on Monday afternoon.
Before the grind of August kicks in, Georgia’s coaches already have done a summer breakdown of opponents on their 2010 schedule.
Offensive coordinator Mike Bobo explained earlier this month about the work that the coaching staff does to get ready for the season.
There’s a full breakdown on the first six opponents—Louisiana-Lafayette, South Carolina, Arkansas, Mississippi State, Colorado and Tennessee. And an “in-depth look” at teams in the SEC East and Georgia Tech. Bobo said he takes about two or three days to study each opponent and comes up with a base gameplan that he puts on paper.
“That week we’ll pull it out and say `Here’s what we we’re thinking in the summer,'” Bobo said. “Some of it might change. They may be doing some different stuff defensively. We might have developed into something different based on injury or who came out of fall camp or within the season as playmakers. We try to look at every opponent and try to get some kind of plan but be willing to change it.”
A few other tidbits:
--Georgia is putting additional limits on the media heading into preseason practices. It sent an e-mail this morning that said “no cell phones permitted on the practice field, no texting, no tweeting.” I just saw some tweets this morning from Sports Illustrated's Peter King from the NFL Bengals' practice.
--According to the Carroll County (Md.) News, former Georgia cornerback Prince Miller was one of three players that didn’t pass their conditioning test with the Baltimore Ravens. Former Alabama nose tackle Terrence Cody was another.
Miller missed two practices before passing the test.
"I woke up early and knocked it out," Miller said. "It was real disappointing for me to miss those two practices. I just wanted to get back on the field as soon as possible.”
According to the newspaper: “The Ravens' conditioning test consists of running 25 yards, up back, up back, up back for a total of 150 yards. Then, there's a 70-second rest period. Six total intervals with a time requirement.”
-Where are they now? Former Georgia wide receiver Walter Hill is now playing basketball at Shorter. Former Georgia Tech offensive coordinator Patrick Nix is now coaching wide receivers at Charleston Southern.
