Georgia’s 2010-11 men’s basketball schedule isn’t yet out but its season opener will be against Mississippi Valley State at 7 p.m. on Nov. 12 in Stegeman Coliseum.
The Southwestern Athletic Conference school announced that date on its website. The Delta Devils went 8-21 last season.
Georgia will also get a visit this coming season from Xavier, according to a tweet from Musketeers coach Chris Mack earlier this month.
“Get your plane tickets to Athens, GA for February X fans,” he wrote.
Georgia coach Mark Fox said he didn’t know if the contract with Xavier was signed yet, but said that “it’s in the works.”
The pairings for the Old Spice Classic on Thanksgiving weekend in Orlando have not yet been announced, but it looks like a Notre Dame-Georgia matchup in the opening round, according to a tweet from the Irish’s beat writer for the South Bend Tribune (h/t Georgia Sports Blog).
Wisconsin will play Manhattan in another matchup with Boston College and Texas A&M on that side of the bracket, according to Madison.com. That would put California and Temple on Georgia’s side of the bracket.
Georgia still is finalizing one more game on its schedule in November.
“We’re trying to schedule to get into the NCAA Tournament,” Fox said.

Georgia's Trey Thompkins got some positive buzz about his play last week in Las Vegas when he suited up for the USA Men’s Select team that trained against the USA National team made up of NBA players.
“The only college player who really stood out on the college side was Trey Thompkins of Georgia,” wrote Ryan Feldman of thehoopsreport.com. “The versatile 6-foot-10 big man hit a few jumpers, ran the floor well, and played solid all around.”
Fox told me on Monday night in Atlanta that he got a chance to watch the rising junior in Vegas, but was limited in how much he could see because of NCAA rules.
“I could not watch Trey go against other college players,” Fox said. “Now other college coaches could go if they didn’t have a player involved, but because my player is playing, we weren’t allowed to go. Then we got an e-mail that when they go against the pros then you can watch. I got to see Trey for what, 20 minutes, a half hour as opposed to three hours. He did well. I thought it was a good experience for him. He really enjoyed it. I thought it was a great opportunity.”
Fox later later told the crowd at the Greater Atlanta Bulldog Club meeting. “You look out on the court and you have Kevin Durant on one team and Trey on the other. It really makes you feel good that he gets to experience that and have some success.”
